As a pastry chef, I’ve reworked the common cookie, creating a completely unique, filled pastry in the process. Almost like a mini cookie pie, these sweet, handcrafted delights are made in Napa Valley with the highest quality ingredients and filled with the stuff dreams are made of: fleur de sel caramel, nutella, bittersweet chocolate, freshly toasted nuts…think of it as the Ben & Jerry’s of cookies with the social conscience of Tom's Shoes.
The real motivation for the cookies is my 13-year-old daughter, Kira, who was diagnosed with autism at 20 months old and is considered non-verbal. She loves to swim, swing, play at the beach and has recently discovered Lady Gaga videos on YouTube. But Kira’s favorite thing to do is bake—this is the language she and I share.
Because of Kira’s level of need, her employment opportunities after high school are very limited. I have worried what the future holds for her and other individuals like her who are facing similar issues. But then I got tired of worrying and decided to do something revolutionary about it!
With your help, together we will start a facilitated bakery where individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities can get empowering training and employment opportunities alongside professional bakers and facilitators who will help them. Your support allows us to begin creating an integrated bakery-training program focused on providing gourmet cookies from the Napa Valley as a vehicle to support individuals who wouldn’t otherwise have meaningful employment opportunities. Thus, the cookie becomes the solution.
I feel so fortunate—of all the things that Kira could be passionate about, this is the one thing that I can help her with. And now, it’s something you can help us with, too. Visit our campaign on Indiegogo to learn more.
We’re starting a revolution—are you in?
